Kids have an AMAZING comprehension and ability for technology – in fact, most wish their kids would put down the smart devices and engage with the world. Well, this course uses their technology obsession as a bridge to creative engagement. Through photography and filmmaking, the smart device becomes a tool for engaging with the world via multi-media communication and storytelling.
This two week mini-camp allows kids ages 10 to 13 to explore various storytelling techniques while working on, and honing, photography concepts. Week 1, our photography week, introduces the students to several photography concepts; Exposure, Composition, Color and Creating with Intent. Each day we’ll explore a different concept in class as a group with time each day outside putting these rules into practice. Week 2, Filmmaking, will take what we learned in Photography and launch it forward into storytelling; Creating a story through photo collage, Showing not Telling (juxtaposing video images), Editing in Camera (using a storyboard), Creating a Video short.
This mini-camp will be taking place in Langdon NH at 212 Cheshire Turnpike across from Hubbard Farms. Class will begin inside the building, however a large amount of time will be spent outside including exploring/using spaces along the Glover’s Ledge trail (on the same property) so students should dress appropriately (please, no flip flops). Classes run Monday through Friday, 9am to 12pm (snack-time at 10:15), for two weeks, Aug 7th through Aug 18th. This course costs $160 for the two weeks or each week available separately for $100 (scholarships available for low-income families, contact us for details) . Students must enroll by Aug 1st.
